Villages

A village is a collection of theme camps or large gaggle of people with a common wish to embrace and share each other’s ideas, gifts, and camp space. Combining friends and resources to create an even greater sum of the whole. Any camps wishing to register as a Village will receive assigned placement for their camps.

Do you want to JOIN a Freezerburn Organized village?

Currently there are two great options to join ahead of time, you will need to email the Village leads noted below in order to apply to join:

    Kidsville

  • Children are an essential part of our community at Freezer Burn and we hope to make the family experience better every year. If you would like to be involved with or camp at Kidsville, please register by sending an email to freezerburnkidsville@gmail.com. Please include the names of family members camping with you, and the rough footprint you will require for your camping structures.
  • Although children 12 and under enter for free, they should be registered prior to arriving at Gate by emailing freezerburntickets@gmail.com by June 15.
    • The Nethers (Adultsville)

    • This space is geared towards adults and mature themes. This space is designated for adults. This is the area specifically intended for the eyebrow raising fun stuff, and for adults who want to camp only with other adults. There will be no persons under the age of 18 permitted here.
    • Camps within The Nethers are encouraged to bring their adult themed events and workshops, and work together to make this space a village. Do you have an adult event, and need a space? Contact the camps registered in The Nethers, and come play! Got questions? Send an email to campnethers@gmail.com

Do I need to create a Village to participate in Freezer Burn?

No, you can show up and camp out in the designated free camping areas outlined on the event map.

Why would I create a Village over a Theme Camp?

If you have multiple theme camps who are sharing resources, or collaborating on events ect you may want to consider a Village vs a regular theme camp- this will guarantee you are all placed ”together” as best as placement folks can. Note- you may be split by a road as an example if needed. Of course you can just apply individually as Theme Camps and request close placement but there is no guarantee that we will be able to place all of your friends themes camps together- of course we will try- but no guarantees.

What if I’m new and want to join an established Theme Camp?

Please see above FAQ: Do you want to JOIN a Freezerburn Organized village? The two available options are noted for established Villages that are accepting new campers.

OK! I want to be a Village! How do I apply for this:

Many of the details in a Village are the same as for Theme Camps- plus some additional details required in order to get placed. Below will outline what details will be required for you to apply for a Village, gather all of the information from your groups of peeps/ theme camps/ campers you are going to have in your village and then fill out the Village Application at the bottom of this page. You will need to gather the following criteria for your application/ here are some things to consider when forming a Village surrounding the responsibilities of becoming a Village:

    • All Theme Camps within your village should be visually stimulating, have an inviting design- frontage- can be decorations, lighting or of course ART! ART- if you have old art projects that have been retired or you want to show off PLEASE use it in your frontage. The MOAR art the merrier!! MOAR!!! Extra Bonus if it is interactive for the wanderers.
    • Have a plan for crowd management.
    • Radical Inclusion- please remember as a village- welcome and respect the stranger. Clearly define your “public” space from your personal space.
    • All theme camps in your village must be interactive. They should include activities, events, or services within and must be available to the entire community. Camps can operate day, night, or both!
    • Being respectful of your neighbors- keeping sound within set limits- please refer to the sound policies
    • Controlling where generators vent exhaust (DO NOT vent next to a tent or sleeping space!), and having safe fuel containment practices. You will need a fuel storage safety plan for FAST to approve.
    • Easily resolving any boundary disputes (though you can call on anyone from placement to help if need be).
    • All theme camps in your Village must have a safety plan that includes proper handling and storing of all liquid fuels, gasoline or diesel, as well as spare propane tanks. If you have any questions on this point please email FB-FAST at freezerburnfiresafety@gmail.com
    • If any of the camps in your Village will have any propane effects or any propane heaters or fire pits- you must have a safety plan that you can communicate with FB-FAST PRIOR to the event. You will also need to have FAST inspect your propane effects/ heaters/ firepits prior to your initial use on site. If you have any questions on this point please email FB-FAST at freezerburnfiresafety@gmail.com
    • All camps in your Village must have a good previous MOOP record (returning camps). As well as a good solid LNT plan and designated camp contact. If you fail the MOOP inspections completed at the end of the event- it may affect the entire Villages eligibility for future placement for 1-3 years. You can learn more about LNT found here: http://wwww.freezerburn.org/leave-no-trace/
    • Theme Camps must provide the following: 2 valid email addresses for a main contact of your theme camp, as well as a secondary main contact of your theme camp. You must also have a dedicated LNT (Leave No Trace) contact as well as a dedicated FAST contact- this means someone in your camp who is the main point of contact if LNT or FAST have questions for you beforehand or on site.
    • You will need a WWW guide description- usually 50 words or less. For BOTH your Village and for EACH theme camp within your village. Descriptions noted as TBA will not be included in the WWW guide. Please have all of your information when completing your application.
    • Theme camps must create a map/ floor plan layout of your space. Measurements- Please do not take more space than you need. Villages and Theme Camps that consistently overestimate their space requirements may have issues or be limited on space allotment the following year. You can hand draw your map, or create it in word, excel, smart draw/ any program of your choosing. Your map MUST have the following information: Overall dimensions (Total length x total width), dimensions labeled in meters, an outline of all buildings/ tents/ trailers showing how you intend to use the space you are requesting, label the frontage/ space that will be offered for public enjoyment- and don't forget to include your mutant vehicles (Art cars) parking space if you have one. Pro Tip- your travel trailer measurements do not include your hitch or your slide outs- leave approx 2 feet space for each of these.
    • Villages need to submit 1 (ONE) overall map for your full application- showing all camps that make up your village as well as individual camp maps with their full floor plan inclusive of all equipment/ tents/ trailers/ rv’s ect- this will allow placement to maneuver and adjust as needed to make sure everyone fits. Note that some Villages MAY get split by a road as an absolute worst case scenario depending on the volume of applications received. Placement will of course be in contact throughout to confirm any adjustments that may be needed to make sure you fit.
    • You must know your total population for your application so make sure to get that head count! This is for all members of your village.
    • If you are planning on gifting any alcoholic beverages or marijauna based products- you must have a plan in place for a lockable storage to store items while you are not active in your gifting. As well a plan for crowd management and ID checking.
    • If you are planning on gifting any food- consider safe food practices- wash your hands and wear gloves.
    • All theme camps/ campers in your village must follow safety protocols designed by the organization, including traffic management, proper handling of fuels, and all other protocols set out.
